What better way to learn screencasting than watching a couple of screencasts right!. Well, before we get to that if you are asking yourself what is Screencasting, head over to the wikipedia page on screencasting and check out the description there.

But for the click wary, screencasting is just a video capture of your computer screen.  Most screencasts are made by software that captures the screen and makes a movie file , as you go about doing something. At Bioscreencast.com we think of screencasts as a video manuals of sorts of how you do stuff on your computer.  For eg. you want to show someone  how to  perform a multiple sequence alignment using the NCBI BLAST site. You can screencast it to show them how. Typically you start your Screencasting software , hit record and then talk your way through the demos. At the end of it watching the screencasts becomes a more fun learning experience than reading a manual.

That brings us to the next point of what you need for screencasting. Some real amazing screencasting software is available for free on all three platforms , while others can be purchased for as little as $10 to as much as $299.

Check out our pages for Screencasting Software, Screencasting on Windows , Mac and Linux to learn more about a screencasting option that fits your needs.
